About Us

Founded in 2025, Right Your Conviction is a nonprofit organization dedicated to confronting wrongful convictions and restoring dignity, freedom, and justice to those the system has failed. We believe no one should face injustice alone—and that every individual deserves a chance to reclaim their future.

Through legal advocacy, case review, record expungement, and investigative services, we work to uncover the truth and correct the wrongs caused by false accusations and systemic failure. We also engage in public education and legislative outreach to drive broader criminal justice reform.

Right Your Conviction is more than a service—we are a movement. With compassion, courage, and community, we fight for truth, empower individuals and families, and help rebuild lives impacted by injustice—one case at a time.

Our Vision

We envision a just and equitable society where truth, fairness, and accountability define the justice system—where no person is left to fight alone, and every wrongful conviction is met with swift, transformative action.

Our Purpose

Our purpose is to serve as a lifeline for those wrongfully accused or burdened by unjust convictions. By providing expert advocacy, legal resources, and community education, we work to dismantle barriers, amplify unheard voices, and create lasting change for individuals, families, and communities affected by injustice.

Meet Our Founders

Lathan Word – Founder of Right Your Conviction

"You never know what can be done—until you undo what’s been done."

Lathan Word is a justice reform advocate, exoneree, and the visionary behind Right Your Conviction. In 2000, just days before leaving for the U.S. Marine Corps, Lathan was wrongfully convicted of armed robbery and sentenced to 15 years based on false testimony. After over a decade of incarceration, relentless legal study, and unwavering faith, he overturned his conviction in 2011—proving his innocence and reclaiming his freedom.

But for Lathan, freedom was just the beginning.

In 2025, he founded Right Your Conviction to fight for others still trapped by injustice. Drawing from his lived experience, Lathan leads with purpose and compassion—providing legal advocacy, investigative support, reentry services, and community empowerment for the wrongfully accused.

His leadership is rooted in truth, accountability, and a deep belief that justice must be accessible to all. Under his guidance, Right Your Conviction is more than a nonprofit—it’s a movement to right what’s been wrong and restore what’s been stolen.

Belinda Williams – Chairman of Right Your Conviction

Belinda Williams is a dedicated justice advocate and the Chairman of Right Your Conviction. With over a decade in Social Services, she brings deep expertise, compassion, and a relentless drive to fight for those wrongfully accused and silenced by the system.

Her passion for justice stems from lived experience. In 2024, Belinda was targeted in a fraudulent legal case involving the Department of Children’s Services—marked by due process violations and betrayal by her own attorney. Refusing to be broken, she studied the law, fought back, and emerged committed to helping others navigate injustice with strength and clarity.

A proud Tennessee native, Belinda holds a B.S. from Tennessee State University and a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from Lindsey Wilson College.
